Church roof and window appeal - a gift for the New Year

As you will have heard over the past few months, we have some essential repairs which need to be made to our church.

What works are we planning?
  1. 1. Recover defective low level flat asphalt roofs
  2. 2. Overhaul and decorate metal rainwater goods (ie drainpipes and hoppers)
  3. 3. Some repointing and repair of brickwork and stone details
  4. 4. Overhaul and decorate metal windows - did you know there are approximately 1,150 panes of glass?
  5. In addition, if funds permit, we are planning to refurbish the tea bar in the Garden room. We already have £2,000 from the Big Lottery Fund towards this.
Why does this work need doing?
The church building was completed in 1957, and, while we have generally over the years kept on top of required repairs, we have reached a point where for example continuing to repair the flat roofs is not practical.
In addition, it makes good sense to do the necessary work to windows, drainpipes and brickwork at the same time as the hire of the scaffolding is a significant cost.
How much will it all cost?

constructionWe are estimating that, including VAT and fees, the total cost including the tea bar refurbishment will be approximately £80,000. Our architects are currently going through a tender process to finalise costs.

How much have we raised so far?
In total, we have raised so far ( mid-May) £80,750. This has come from a variety of sources, including three legacies, a number of generous gifts from members of the congregation and from a number of fund raising events.
When do we plan to carry out the works?

summerOur plan is to have the works done in the summer of 2012. We estimate they will take 8 -12 weeks.

How do we plan to raise the rest of the funds required?

We hope to raise the remainder of the funds required from:

  1. Further fund raising activities - eg, Concert on 12th May
  2. Grant applications; and
  3. Donations from the congregation and other friends of St Augustine's
So what would we like from you?

Some have already given generously, and we would like you all to consider prayerfully what you might be able to afford to give to the appeal. This can be as a monthly commitment by standing order over three years, a lump sum gift or an interest free loan.
We know that appealing for money for repairs is not very glamorous. However, a well maintained building is essential to our continuing ministry here in Bromley.

We held a day of prayers and gifts at the church on Saturday 21st January which was very successful, but a final push is still needed.

Please don't forget that, if you are a taxpayer, HMRC will add 25% in gift aid if you sign the form confirming you are a taxpayer.

Much of the amount so far given has already been raised in this way.

You can get a Gift Aid Form at church but if you want to download and print one now please click here.

Our thanks and prayers go out to you all.
