Vicar Katrina Barnes baptises twins!Baptism

The birth of a child is a time of great joy and celebration.

To help you celebrate this event at St. Augustine's we offer both services of 'Baptism' and of 'Thanksgiving'.

To help people decide what kind of service they would like we have produced a pack containing information about both services. You can collect this pack after any of our morning services.

We have a Family Service once a month. This service is very relaxed and there is generally quite a buzz, so it won't matter if your child, or children, make noises during the service. You are very welcome to come along to any of our services and we also have Club JC (Sunday School) for children between the ages of 3-14 years. A crèche is also available. Details of all of our services can be found by clicking here.

The 'Baptism' service contains many pictures of what the Christian faith is about.

Journey

Journey Promises are made by parents and godparents on behalf of a child as a first step is taken on a journey of faith with God. It is hoped that this journey will lead to a confirming of this faith later on in the life of the child.

Cross

Cross

Those being baptised receive the sign of the cross. This reminds us that Jesus died on the cross that we might be forgiven for the wrong things we do in our lives.

Water

Water Water represents how through faith in Jesus we are forgiven and washed clean from those wrong things in our lives. Water is also a sign of sustaining life and in baptism it represents dying to sin and rising to new life with Jesus.

Candle

Lighted Candle A candle is given to show the light of goodness that Jesus brings into what is sometimes a very
dark world. Everyone who has faith in Jesus walks in that light for the rest of their lives.
