Funeral arrangements

The loss of a loved one, whatever the history or circumstances, is a time when you need the support of your parish church and we are here to help you and to give you advice. For most people, their first experience of having to arrange a funeral is not easy but you do not have to do it alone and as well as speaking to us about where to start there are many resources which you can use in your planning, some of which we have listed below.

If you need to speak to us about arranging a funeral, or indeed about anything following the loss of your loved one, please do not hesitate to contact:

A BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE has been placed in the Memorial Chapel to satisfy the need for an inexpensive, yet lasting form of memorial. (The Memorial Chapel is accessed through the main church. Walk up the left side aisle and you will see the chapel entrance doors in front of you at the end of the aisle.)

Book of RemembranceA page is provided for each day of the year and the book, in a protective case, will remain open each day at the appropriate page so that entries may be seen on each anniversary of the date of death, or on some other special anniversary.

Relatives and friends may have the names of their loved ones recorded in the Book of Remembrance.  There is a small charge.  Should a longer inscription or inscription incorporating a floral emblem, etc. be desired, further information can be given upon request.

Once a year at St Augustine's we hold a special Service of Remembrance on a Sunday afternoon at the beginning of November, for everyone who has suffered a bereavement in the previous year. Many people find this enormously helpful as they try to come to terms with their loss. This service is open to anyone who may wish to attend; however invitations are sent to families who have been bereaved in the previous year, for whom it has been our privilege to conduct a funeral service.
