CHURCH YOUTH & CHILDREN'S WORKER
St Augustine’s Church, Bromley Common are seeking a Youth and Children’s Worker with vision and enthusiasm to set our young people on fire for Jesus.
This full time position would initially be for a period of 3 years with the possibility of an extension. Salary based on experience and CYWU pay scale. Applicants should have a relevant professional qualification and/or appropriate experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION

| Hours of work: | 37 hours per week (Full Time) |
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
- To build up our young people in the Christian faith
- To be responsible for the pastoral care and development of youth & children’s work within the church.
- To build a positive relationship with leaders and members of children’s groups within the church
- To maintain and develop involvement in local schools.
- To maintain links with uniformed groups.
- To liaise with local youth workers, diocesan groups and statutory bodies to share best practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To co-ordinate a programme for the youth of the church which will cater, as far as possible, for their spiritual and social needs.
- To exercise active pastoral concern for the young people in the church and to be available to them for counsel.
- To represent the needs and views of the church’s young people to the wider church community, or to enable, where appropriate, the young people to do this for themselves.
- To train and nurture a team of voluntary leaders to engage in sustained outreach to our children and young people e.g. via holiday clubs.
- To maintain involvement in local schools via collective worship.
- To initiate and encourage camps and weekends for the social and spiritual development of our young people.
- To produce, for the approval of the PCC, strategy and objectives for the ongoing youth ministry of the parish, and to supply budget proposals for this work.
- To be responsible for advising church groups as to the implementation of the PCC Policy on Child Protection and liaising with the Children’s Officer.
- To chair regular meetings of volunteers working with our children and young people and attend staff groups regularly and the PCC as required.
- To fulfil any other responsibilities deemed appropriate by the management committee.
ST AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH YOUTH & CHILDRENS WORKER: PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Strong Christian commitment and an ability to work out the implications of their faith in a professional youth work context.
- Ability to establish and develop relationships with young people, church members, the leadership team and the community in general.
- Ability to support voluntary staff.
- Organisational skills, willingness to work flexible hours.
- Ability to balance priorities and make sound decisions.
- Some training and previous experience in youth work and discipleship preferred.
- Proven oral and written skills essential and IT skills desirable.
