Your Wedding at St Augustine's

BrideWe are pleased and excited that you are considering having your wedding at St. Augustine's. Today there are plenty of locations in which you can get married, yet for many folk the idea of a wedding in a church is not only the attractive option but also the 'right' option too. What better start could there be to a new life together than to celebrate it in the presence of God and to ask for His blessing on the coming years.

Here at St. Augustine's we provide a wedding pack to help guide you through some of the questions you may have. The pack can be collected after any of our church services. Set out below are some comments on just a few of the issues that you may be wondering about at this stage.

Wedding ringsAre there rules about getting married in church?
Provided that one of you resides in the Parish, it is permissible for you to be married here. If you are not able to comply with this regulation there are certain other possibilities and the Vicar is always ready to discuss your requirements with you. Further information is enclosed within the wedding pack.

Do our names still have to be read out in church?
Yes. This is what is called the 'banns of marriage.' An application form must be completed fully and returned before you can presume that your wedding is booked. Only on receipt of this document will your wedding date be placed in the church diary.

Do we have to come to church?
The wedding pack should be helpful as you plan your wedding, but in addition we present two other matters for your consideration. In order to get to know you properly, it would be nice to see you regularly in church, so that when your marriage takes place, we actually know you as friends. Our main Sunday service is at 10:00 am and we look forward to welcoming you. Please be sure to make yourself known to a member of the clergy.

There is information in our wedding pack about choosing music and hymns, flowers, video recording and licensing. Please call in and see us; we'd love to meet you.
